Garden House Charity Day!
Posted:7 July 2013
Every summer the Garden House holds a fantastic, fun open day and auction to fund-raise for a local charity and this year we are supporting Spiral. (Read more about Spiral below…)
Come along and visit the garden on Sunday 14 July, and bring your friends! There will be a variety of stalls selling garden-related loveliness, plus a bookstall, bric-a-brac, arts & crafts, and music. We will be serving delicious food all afternoon so drop in for lunch, for tea and superb cakes, or an early evening bite.
As usual, we will have an amazing charity auction, and this year we feel it’s even better than ever! Among the items to bid for are:
- Four gift vouchers to visit The View situated at the top of The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in London, giving you a 360-degree view of London
- One week in an apartment near Almeira, Spain (sleeps 8, shared swimming pool)
- Private pasta making workshop and delicious lunch for you and up to four friends with a River Café chef in a Regency Brighton house
- One week stay in a idyllic cottage on Skye (sleeps 5/6)
- Home spa treatment for two people (remedial/relaxation/pregnancy massage or reflexology session with very experienced registered practitioner)
- Beautiful watercolour painting donated by renown local artist Kate Osborne
- Delightful watercolour of The Garden House garden (below)
- Four hours of professional gardening (to get your summer garden into shape!)
- ½ day of garden/allotment makeover by the GH Friday gardening group
Further fabulous auction items include a haircut, package of herbal products, a bottle of Plumpton wine, a selection of beautiful plants, a wonderfully crafted cushion, and various prints of local scenes!
About Spiral…
Spiral is a small local charity which does so much! It provides much-needed community-based social activities for people with learning disabilities. These include day trips and holidays and regular activities such as music, dance, comedy, DJ-ing, media training, art & craft, sports, hobby club and talent shows. The range of activities has been developed in response to users’ requests, and is broad enough to offer something to suit everyone’s tastes and support needs.
Spiral works with people across all ranges of learning difficulty including autism, Asperger’s, etc, and across all ages from 14 to 80+. It operates 7 days a week, day and night, across Brighton & Hove and surrounding districts, and some participants come from further afield in Sussex. Spiral also provides adapted transport to help people access their activities.
Without these unique services, over 400 disabled people on the area would be unable to take part in a productive way in their community and pursue their hobbies and interests. The work has a massive impact on the quality of life of those who use the service, and upon the people who care for them who also benefit from respite.
In this age of cut-backs Spiral is an even more precious and vital resource for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers. Please come along and support this very worthwhile charity.
