Be inspired by ideas both new and traditional as you explore the use
of colour in your garden. Consider new and eye-catching planting
combinations while focussing on the all-important skill of choosing
and working with colour.
Henry Macaulay and Max Crisfield lovingly managed the beautiful
herbaceous colour-themed borders, spectacular mixed flower and
vegetable parterres and cut flower displays at Parham House in West
Sussex for ever five years.
They will guide you as you spend the morning sessions looking at
colour – using annuals, perennials, bulbs, shrubs, and even vegetables
to lift your planting. You’ll also explore the use of foliage and
texture too, giving you lots of ideas to start formulating your own
planting schemes.
The key use of repetition and height in your displays will be
discussed – and you’ll also have a session looking at ‘star’ plants –
some of those stand-out cultivars and varieties which get noticed and
reward you every time.
Henry and Max will also help you focus on how to extend the season by
using late-summer colour, and considering which plants will start to
dazzle just as your displays start to fade.
Finally, part of the day will be set aside for you to work on creating a mini-design / planting scheme for your own garden.
Participants need to bring:
* Photographs/maps of your garden, plus of the area where you would like
to design a colour scheme
* Books, photographs, magazine cuttings of planting/colour combinations that appeal to you
* Notebook, pens, pencils, coloured pencils and a large sketchbook/pad
for drawing up ideas
